The Central Government has clarified that the organization governing Team India’s cricket operations will not come under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The decision has sparked fresh debate over transparency and accountability in Indian cricket administration. According to reports, the authorities stated that the cricket body managing Team India is not considered a “public authority” under the RTI Act, despite its massive influence, public following, and involvement in national sporting activities. This means citizens cannot directly seek information related to its administration, financial decisions, or internal operations through RTI applications. The issue of bringing Indian cricket administration under RTI has been discussed for years, especially after demands for greater transparency in team selection, finances, sponsorship deals, and governance. Supporters of RTI inclusion argue that the organization performs public functions and represents the country internationally, while opponents claim it operates as an autonomous sports body.
